7.5 million cards and counting

American Express reported this week that it added a whopping 2 million credit cards in the last three months. Wow! They added a total of about 7.5 million cards for the year so far.

I sure hope you weren't one of them.

According this MSNBC news article, "Card member spending rose 15 percent to $140.3 billion during the quarter."

Listen, you probably have received a number of offers from American Express right? Maybe you were even one of the ones who signed up for a new card this year.

If so, dump it. Seriously, pay it off down to a zero balance and then cancel the thing. Why? Because, 12 months from now when you are still paying for this year's Halloween costume and Christmas presents, you'll wish you did.

Don't get stuck with another "payment." It's only keeping you in debt and further away from building wealth.

Do Halloween and Christmas come every year? Great! Start saving!

Next year you'll have plenty of cash in the bank for costumes and gifts so you won't even need to give American Express or any other card maker a second thought.
