Here's a savings plan: Sell the junk!
So you're dragging out the Christmas decorations and what do you find? Junk, junk and more junk! But wait! Is it really junk? Maybe you've heard the phrase, "one man's junk is another man's treasure." You'd be shocked what people will pay for your junk. So what do you do? Sell it of course.
There are a number places to do this. If you live in the states and your junk is big and heavy, Craigs List is a great place to begin. I've never had a problem going this route and because it's free, I don't bother with the newspaper.
If it's small and doesn't weigh much, auction it off on eBay!
Maybe you've never done eBay before. That's alright. It's amazingly easy to set up and they have very good video tutorials to talk you through each step.
If your job, church, school, or service organization lets you post personal stuff, stick the item up on the bulletin board. Who knows what interest it may draw.
The bottom line is this: you get to clear out your junk AND make some cash on the side. What do you do with the cash?
Well that's up to you, but if it were me, it'd go straight into savings and stay there for that rainy day when something breaks and needs replacing. Then I got the cash on hand to replace it. That way, I'm trading my junk for something I actually need! Cool huh?
