Stuck in a rut? Here's what you do...

I know you've been there before, everyone has been at some point in their lives, but if a rut is where you are right now and you just can't get out and get going, here's the trick that will work almost every time.

Pick one thing to focus on and do. Then put all of your energy into that one thing.

Most people get in a rut (myself included) because it just seems too overwhelming to do what needs to be done to get out of it. There's just so much to do that you don't

want to do anything except what you've been doing. That's a rut.

So pick one thing. For example, if you are having a hard time getting your debt-reduction efforts in gear and you are feeling way overwhelmed about where you should start; pick one simple thing and focus on that, such as getting organized.

Don't think about budgets, saving, investments and all that stuff. Just get organized. If that's still too overwhelming then break it down even further into smaller pieces: 1) Clean the desk, 2) Put bills in folders, 3) Buy a calendar, you get the idea.

Focus on one of these small things at a time. Don't rush it. Take your time. Don't think about it or analyze it. Just do it. One small task at a time. Before you know it, you will be on your way OUT of that rut and on to a life of freedom.
