Real debt elimination can be a reality for anyone and a simple search at ezinearticles.com will give you tons of great ideas and strategies for getting out of debt. Some give you three steps, some give you seven steps and all are good.
While all of these steps for debt elimination are usually fairly sound (though not all), they often leave you an unanswered question: "What do I do now?"
If you've got a handful of tips for debt reduction, from spending less, to
cutting up your cards and you're not sure what to do next, here's the answer in
three easy steps.
1) What helpful tip is most realistic at the moment?
Maybe it's just not realistic to cut up all of your cards. Is there something else that seems like a good idea?
The first thing you need to do to get started in eliminating debt is deciding what am I going to do first.
Here's the key: don't worry if you don't know how to do it or what steps are involved.
Let's say you have a really high interest rate credit card. You want to reduce the rate, but you have no idea how. Well, then, you've just picked your first step towards debt elimination, congratulations!
Better yet, you've answered the unanswered question, "well, what do I do now?" Now you know what you need to do: reduce the interest rate. Now on to the next step.
2) What can I do right now?
Now that you know what you need to do, the next step is to ask yourself, "What can I do right now?" When I say "right now", I mean when you are done reading this, or first thing tomorrow.
Remember, eliminating debt doesn't begin with an idea, but by what you can today to get out of debt tomorrow.
So, in keeping with our previous example, if you have some high interest rate credit cards and you're considering debt consolidation, then call a few local banks and see what they offer. Browse the web and see what rates are available. Call up a friend and ask them for advice.
The bottom line is, if you don't know how to do it, then your first step, what you can do right now, is to FIND OUT how to do it.
Start talking to people, spend some time on the web, but just get going. Don't plop in a movie, don't go to sleep, don't leave for work, until you have one thing: an action item!
Debt elimination only happens when you take action, which leads us to the third step in getting out of debt.
3) Take action....NOW!
If you really do want to get out of debt, then the crux of all the strategies and tips you come across is their utter dependence on this one thing: action.
You must take action on the knowledge you have if you want to eliminate your debt. If you don't have the knowledge you need, then go get it. It really is that simple.
